The American actress Donna Douglas last Thursday at the age of 81 deceased to the effects of cancer. That made her family announced yesterday. Douglas became famous in the hit series The Beverly Hillbillies, who insisted the nine seasons on television.
In the comedy Douglas played the role of Elly May Clampett, whose father is suddenly very rich when he discovered oil on his land . Then relocated rural family to an affluent neighborhood. The program was hugely popular in the sixties in the United States and was also seen in the Netherlands.
Douglas also stood before her television debut already in the spotlight as a local beauty queen in her home state of Louisiana. She later played in the film Frankie and Johnny together with rock king Elvis Presley.
According to her family Douglas was a warm personality and a very Christian lady. The actress would have dismissed some film roles because they were spicy. Douglas especially attracted time to speak in churches, said her impresario. “She was a country-angel.”
