Paul Verhoeven expected noise in Cannes by thriller – NU.nl

The thriller is based on the book O by Philippe Djian, in France even kicked up dust. “Usually a movie even more impact.”

Elle is competing this year with a Golden Palm at the prestigious film festival. No surprise for Verhoeven. “It already was a bit up in the air,” commented the 77-year-old director. “My French manufacturer has done a good job.”

Verhoeven praises the French film industry. “I was treated with all respect, what in the Netherlands at the Dutch Film Fund, is not always the case,” says the filmmaker. “So there is no Dutch money in the film.”

The director is planning the classic Bel Ami by Guy de Maupassant to film in the Netherlands. “My regular screenwriter Gerard Soeteman and I are now doing that might be to have a television.”.
