Ukraine was Saturday named the surprise winner. It left behind favorites Australia and Russia. In the minute that Ukraine appeared to have won, almost 73,000 tweets were posted worldwide.
It is 00:38 hours Dutch time the busiest Twitter Minutes in Eurovision history. Russia’s actions led to almost 54,000 tweets per minute.
By the time Croatia sang almost 51,000 tweets were posted. The old record was the performance of Georgia last year, with over 48,000 tweets.
Hashtags
Twitter also sought how often used the three-letter hashtags for the participating countries. Leader was there #AUS for Australia, followed by #POL (Poland), #RUS (Russia), #FRA (France) and #GBR (Great Britain). The Netherlands is not in the top ten.
The most shared tweet came from the British vlogger Dan Howell. He wrote that he tried to explain the contest to an American trucker, who replied: ‘That sounds rather effeminate and terrible’ ‘. That was more than 13,000 people retweeted
