It was quickly Michiel Claessen, alias Storksky. Initially created to graduate at the Tilburg Rock Academy, now is the rock duo suddenly among names like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Paul McCartney and Rammstein. It is clear that there is now a big buzz hanging around that “out of control” thesis.
And that’s really not just because of the victory over the Limburg talent contest Now or Never. Of course, there Storksky owes to this lovely place at Pinkpop, but it already seems that Storksky has a longer life than the one-hit wonder syndrome where many previous Now Or Never had to deal with winners. First, there is the recently released EP Storksky to which members include State and Triggerfinger cooperating. In addition, the band has been selected for Popronde and next Pinkpop is there other major festival in the offing: the Black Cross. Enough opportunities so for a while to keep that buzz.
In the backstage area we find a relaxed Michael Claesssen and together with the now drummer Roy Moonen he talks about the Big Day, his ambitions and his Pinkpop favorite bands.

It is a truism of buzzing, but how do you feel?
“Quite really okay! I’m going to try to maximize pleasure and I think that’s important for both of us. There is some tension, of course, but I think the intention is that we not hear of attracting. “
Do you prepare in a special way at the Pinkpop action? Or is there no difference between a stage and say, Cul De Sac (Tilburg) or Pinkpop?
“The basics remain the same, but today go about it obviously just something else, you need more preparation. We use a bigger light show than usual, we have a guest singer who come to do a few songs and Mario Goossens Triggerfinger comes meedrummen a number. Those are things that are designed specifically for this show. Yesterday we were in the Oefenbunker Landgraaf and we saw it as a kind of general.
And it was the proverbial ‘bad generale “which promises a good premiere?
“Haha, yes there were some kinkjes into the cable yes. I am therefore pleased that we have done yesterday. It started with a cable that was broken, so you just heard a lot of noise from one moment to speak. Luckily I could fix up it until it was acceptable. So today I have a backup there, because on such a day should of course not happen. “
Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage?
“no not really, especially wish each other a lot of fun, a group hug and more than that really. Shinen and enjoy!
Is there a point in the set where you live to?
“Yes, there is a special interaction with Mario, he goes along with Roy equally suits moment and then I can also get my moment in a solo number. Just throttle back and then we can go popping back full house. “
You’re probably familiar with the so-called “curse of Now or Never”: just take a moment at Pinkpop and then again disappear into oblivion. What will you do to that buzz currently to Storksky hangs hold?
“I think it’s good that we realize ourselves that this is a very good showcase, but we do not now just stand on these festivals. We can now climb that mountain just to see what it looks like up there and from there we have to walk back to the half and then go up the elevator. We just have to work hard later. We join Popronde and we stand on Black Cross. That’s not through a sort of competition as Now or Never. In addition, we are at many local festivals this summer and we are working with a number of programs later this year. And we will continue to release new work. Just to the tray so.
You have recently become a duo after you have worked with several drummers. Why did you do finally chose Roy as drummer?
“At first, I needed people who could deliver you me with the final project. In the beginning I thought that when I have several drummers who participate live, I can keep going my own way, it gave me a kind of freedom. In practice this does not work anyway, because you have always with different people start rehearsing for the same show. What at first seemed to me very practical, yet was not so practical. Roy: “One determines time you build something up, you become attuned to one another and that it is like a house. If you ever need to work with different people is not feasible. “
You are often compared with Royal Blood. Is that one of your inspirations or is it due to the fact that this is a duo that makes use of very hard rock?
“Yes, I do think the latter. As I see it also as a compliment, because it’s a very cool band. But there are more references and I think all compliments. “
For what are your sources of inspiration?
‘Josh Homme, Muse, Incubus, but also all other things like Elliott Smith. The latter you can hear above all in the choirs. But the easiest comparison is of course another duo.
About duos speaking, it is an advantage that you have with your partner, whether it is working properly harder
Roy: “Somewhere you should work harder, with higher occupancy is much more movement on stage. Michael stands behind his microphone and I sit behind the drums. We have also been looking very deliberately to show how we get interesting. Therefore, for example, have much higher deployed with light effects to create movement and atmosphere on stage. There is a limit somewhere, but on the other hand, we seek our strength in just. ”
Michael: “And because we are so well adapted to each other, which also presents another a certain energy. On the other hand, if you two come though again benefit the tightness of the show. You do, after all, with fewer people to play together “
Which bands are you going to visit this weekend itself
?” The State, Skip & amp.; That, Ghost, Puscifer and of course Red Hot Chili Peppers and Paul McCartney. ”
Last question: What came first, the mask or the band name
“Haha, the band name?. But now I play without a mask. It’s not very comfortable to play. I see my pedals, I must always ensure that the bill is stuck on the microphone, and just at the expense of my voice sound. The singer is still today wear a mask. From now on, I will show my true face. “
