Diamantenroof remains in police chase – Telegraaf.nl

The checks for passengers were at Schiphol airport a few years tightened after the terror in America on september 11, 2001. The cargo traffic at the airport there were, however, many abuses. That became painfully evident during the spectacular diamantroof on 25 February 20005, which is a juwelentransport, to the value of 72 million euro was weggegrist.

The three involved employees of KLM Cargo and a pilot of Tulip Air acted on that Friday morning, as they were accustomed to the regular diamantentransport from Amsterdam to Antwerp. There seemed to be nothing to worry about. A truck was on the seemingly high-security vrachtterrein before the plane is ridden, where they have the expensive cargo would shift.

    KLM employees bedriegd

Three men with machine guns had other plans. They were KLM employees, who had to get off and lie on the floor. The criminals went there and then with the bus and the loot of course. Unhindered, he managed them in the infield of the airport exit. The truck was in Hoofddorp found. The raiders proved to be a bag with jewels to the value of 29 million in the hurry to have forgotten.

The trooper was right after the largest diamantenroof in the Netherlands, the bitten dog. Especially from The Hague attacked the politicians about each other because of the failing security of the airport. How was it possible that the robbers without problems the highly secure vrachtcomplex of Schiphol had to enter and leave?

    Probably the help inside

But legally it was after 9/11 so arranged that beveiligingsbedrijfjes in this kind of tasks the border police helped. And, apparently, has led this practice to new problems. Too many different agencies had access to the passes of the airport. There was no proper supervision. A KLM spokesman also shortly after the robbery that most likely there from the inside help had been.

Yet, it was the state Police that the investigation under his care took. There were twenty detectives released and in the beginning was the research very well. Six weeks after the roof was the first suspect arrested. A man with a long criminal record, who lived in Spain. Not much later, was also an employee of Martinair arrested, just like two brothers from Amsterdam. All acquaintances of the police and especially the Martinair-man made the story around. You see, there was inside help.

    Study over

But at the end of the year was the research really stuck. All the suspects were back on free feet. A new wave of arrests followed. This time had the police have a Surinamese group in the eye.

That were not nice guys. It went to heavy criminals, ruthless gangsters. Only one of them had a Dutch passport. This group was associated with murders, fatal shootings, afpersingspraktijken and violent robberies. This time, layers it all under the tap, on suspicion of cocaine trafficking. But more and more got the police the idea that this group was also responsible for the diamantroof. Allegedly the diamonds to Suriname are shipped to them beyond recognition to create and return the market to get.

    Suspects left nothing loose

But thirteen months after the robbery had police and the public prosecution service, the suspects are all still let go. That the to hard, seasoned gangsters went, it turned out during the interrogation. They left nothing loose. Not a word. It was an ignominious defeat for the investigative authorities, which together, three million in search of the diamonds had stopped.

That the police never release has left, turned out Friday and Saturday morning, then again five men and two women, both in Spain and the Netherlands were held. The authority would not say whether the current suspects twelve years ago under the suspicion layers. The police shall occur only on the view that multiple arrests will soon not be excluded.
