The Iranian director Asghar Farhadi has announced that he is at the end of February, not to the United States for the presentation of the Oscars. He is protesting against the entry of president Trump. Farhadi is with his film The Salesman is nominated in the category for best foreign film.
Taraneh Alidoosti, the protagonist from The Salesman, announced earlier that they are the Oscars boycott, even if they may come.
Trump has announced that a few months no visa will be provided to people from Iran. That makes it difficult, if not impossible, for the Iranians to be at the ceremony.
“With regret I announce that I have decided not to the Academy Awards Ceremony,” writes Farhadi in a statement. He explains that he actually was planning to go. But eventually he decided to have the ceremony did not attend. “It seems that the possibility of my presence is accompanied with ifs and buts and who are in no way acceptable for me.”
He said that he is the measure of Trump unjust and he hopes that the situation does not give rise to further division between the countries.
