A Dutch delegation last week for two days at the UN Committee (CERD) in Geneva. That committee is composed of human rights experts and judges every four years or countries adhere to the UN conventions they have signed. It was in Switzerland, including on employment discrimination and the role of local authorities in tackling discrimination. And thus about Zwarte Piet.
One of the main conclusions of the report is that the Netherlands must do more to prevent discrimination. Now the emphasis is according to the UN Committee particularly reactive measures, and will only take action if discrimination has already occurred.
