Star Wars for Dummies – The Standard

You promised: you go to the new Star Wars, and now you can not escape it. But to be honest, you do not get it. Who is that green monster? What is Force? Why everyone hates the first part? And what you must see, if you just want one to watch?

The Empire is bad and the rebels are good. A lot is being shot and chased. And the good guys win in the end. No, the plot of Star Wars is not complicated or particularly original.

And yet the films enchant, which fans dressed up as favorite heroes and go in a sleeping bag for the cinema are located.

Not everyone understands this fascination. We go there once quietly through it, so that even the unbelieving cynic this week on the new section to begin.

It is a story that is told fanciful. Star Wars has magic knights with lightsabers, bumbling robots, a hairy but friendly monster. And there is an ultimate evil force that must be defeated. There are dangerous aliens, slimy aliens and aliens making music. Spaceships, laser guns, and ijsplaneten bosmanen. Anything you like eight-year-old’s dream.

Not surprising that many fans as a child fell under the spell of Star Wars. Nostalgia them now pulls back to the cinema: with The Force Awakens they hope they can flee again briefly in an epic space tale, just like when

Epic.? Are not you exaggerating a little?

No. Star Wars is a modern myth about struggle between good and evil forces. A simple mortal who finds out that he is destined to perform great deeds. Along the way he is taught by a wise mentor, by state tests and transforms into a hero and savior.

familiar? Star Wars shares this classic narrative structure with classic tales such as Gilgamesh and Hercules. Modern variants are everywhere: think of Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Harry Potter, The Lion King. And the Hunger Games.

And Star Wars so. The hero of the first film is Luke Skywalker. An ordinary boy who is bored to pieces on his desert planet. By coincidence cross two robots with an important mission his path. What follows is a quest that takes him out of his isolation and his secret force a discovery. Along Luke assistance scoundrel Han Solo and get the tough rebel princess Leia. And then there are the Jedi, a kind of wizards and knights together.

Eh, wizards?

Yes, Star Wars has a decidedly magical side. The all-governing mystic power in the Star Wars universe is not a divine figure, but the Force, the Force. That is a universal primal force that can be used for good and evil

That Power works a bit like duct tape:. There is a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together. Jedi (these are the good guys) feel the Force as an enormous source of energy that is created by all living things. Our hero, Luke Skywalker, Jedi are trained as such by the bearded good guy Obi-Wan Kenobi and later Yoda, a green Muppet with speech impediments.

These are the heroes. Who are the bad guys?

Jedi who let themselves be corrupted by hate and fear, and fall to the dark side of the Force. They Sith. Jedi and Sith at each other’s life. They fight each other with light sabers – an elegant weapon for a more civilized age, they find themselves. Furthermore, no one uses them.

Dark robe, red lightsaber, evil intentions? That’s how you recognize a Sith. They use the power to exert power over others and to overcome death

The two powerful Sith lords are Emperor Palpatine and his right hand, Darth Vader:. The iconic villain behind the black mask with the voice of the father of the lion cub Simba, James Earl Jones. Together best glands Darth Vader and Palpatine’s thoroughly evil empire

On the other side are Skywalker and his guerilla friends who try to beat the kingdom:.. The resistance

And those people in white plastic then?

Those are storm troopers, the anonymous foot soldiers of the Empire. Stormtroopers are unnamed and largely clones. The ideal enemy to pop off without guilt and to blow. That appears to be changing in the new movie.

The guys really seem like old movies.

Just do not! Star Wars is full of strong women who carry the story. Go starring it: in the old trilogy you had Princess Leia, the first Darth Vader in his plastic face dared to say that he had hooping on. Leia was in a later film (Return of the Jedi) a kinky outfit, but that was slavery, against her will. Eventually she strangles her shackles the alien that has trapped her: the worm-like Jabba the Hutt. Now that’s strong symbolism against sexism!

In the new trilogy is Padmé Amidala center, a politician who takes on the powerful Trade Federation and, thereafter, at the Senate where they themselves part of.

In the new film The Force Awakens appears Rey. Her role we have to see, of course, but it seems that they are the line of strong, independent, tough, modern women pervades. And what about the new villain in the new film, Captain Phasma? Also a woman!

Okay, obviously. I understand the fascination. Kind of. But now order those movies:. I do not understand

There are two trilogies appeared together six films. The complication is that the story of the last created trilogy (15 years ago created) takes place before the first trilogy made (35 years ago). The second series are prequels, no sequels.

Why so complicated?

When creator George Lucas made the first Star Wars in 1977, there was no question of any prosecution. The film simply known as Star Wars and told a complete story. At the end the rebels books books a great victory over the empire and had everybody can live happily ever after.

But Star Wars was a smashing success and Luke was allowed to make a sequel. The film from 1977 he called retroactively Episode IV: A New Hope, the sequel 1980 Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and in 1983 came Episode VI. Return of the Jedi

The films numbering in this way, Lucas gave himself room to work out ever the history of Star Wars. He did so in Episodes I, II and III, which appeared between 1999 and 2005. It tells the story George Lucas Darth Vader: how a noble Jedi Knight was a revenge-crazed maniac

Lucas likes to believe he’s come to the complete saga from the front?. In reality, he invented a lot of things as you are making. That Darth Vader is the father of Luke Skywalker, he reflected for example only in the writing of the second film (Episode V).

Dude, spoiler!

Come on, after 30 years you can no longer call spoiler. Ask people one quote from Star Wars, and they will say: Luke, I am your father. Even if they have never seen a Star Wars movie.

Moreover, that quote is wrong. In reality, says Darth Vader: No, I am your father. But that aside.

Six films so. In what order those films, I can now look best?

The most convenient way is the order of hatching. So first Episode IV, V and VI, and then I, II and III. This is the most gradual introduction into the Star Wars universe. Conversely, too, to follow the story chronologically

But there is another way:. The machete-order. Which is as follows: first IV, V, II, III and finally VI. This way, you start with Part IV and V with Luke’s confusion is Darth Vader my father? In a long flashback (Parts II and III) see: yes, he is your father and that is so and so. If you understand that you can return to the story in Part VI showing how Luke saves his father and hence the galaxy. In this order are maintained through all plot-twists and Obi-Wan Kenobi the whole story long beard.

You forgot Part I.

Yes , deliberately. There are two reasons for that. Firstly, The Phantom Menace (Part I), not so good. Poorly acted, poorly directed and downright boring. More importantly, this part is irrelevant for the big story. Nothing and nobody in part I really matters. Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn not much not too long race with floating machines. Senator Valorum? Flying slave driver Watto? Nope. Horned villain Darth Maul is cool, but also unnecessary. All those figures do not come back into the story and omitting this part even prevent some unnecessary confusion

Oh, and a small but very (very) important advantage:. This way you see so minimum of Jar-Jar Binks, a maligned by fans slapstick amphibian.

Ok, but I really do not have time to make up for five films now. If I only want to see what you

Part V: The Empire Strikes Back. That is the most dramatic part, the major developments take place. Darth Vader and his revelation to Luke, a bad kiss, a romantic kiss, gift battles on Hoth, the wise Yoda comes into view, crook Boba Fett also the treacherous Lando Calrissian, lightsaber battles, an ice monster, an asteroid sample space llamas, a city in the clouds, a severed hand, the shiny robot C-3PO being demolished, the spaceship Millennium Falcon in action, snowspeeders, walking robots and much, much more.

I I understand that I may not start against a Star Wars fan on Star trek.

It is a little Real Madrid-Barcelona or Amsterdam-Rotterdam. Mostly innocent, nerdy rivalry so. Star Trek is the oldest, which began in 1966, Star Wars is from 1977. From Star Trek are five different TV series and more than ten films. Star Wars is simple:. Two trilogies, one story

But the biggest difference is the genre. Star Trek is pure science fiction, it is a vision, a fantasy of what could be. Star Wars is a mythological drama, set in a galaxy, long (long) ago.
