The Dutch Safety Board (OVV) will begin a major study into the safety of air traffic at and around Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Terrorism has nothing to do this research, stressed a spokesman. With what is?

the board wants to know if there is something structurally wrong at the largest airport in the Netherlands, can be found on the agency’s website.

Near-collisions

in recent years there has namely been a number of incidents, including near-collisions on the runway or aircraft took off from runways that were not cleared for departure.

the study shall, in addition to any defects, reveal whether anything has been done with recommendations from previous surveys. The council wants to know “how the safety of residents is included in the decision-making process.

It is not about terrorism, would like to emphasize a spokesman. We look for include “the design, location and use of the airport.

Strong growth

Schiphol will grow significantly in the coming years . The research is therefore important to improve safety, according to the Research Council. The council hopes that the investigation has been completed by the end of this year or early in 2017.

The Research Council did earlier research on ten incidents between 2004 and 2008. It was a plane or a runway while there an airplane or car drove on. In 2010 rose a KLM plane accidentally from the taxiway, runway and not the next. That happened at sunset on a snow-covered airport
