The world famous Russian clown Oleg Popov is at the age of 86 died in Rostov-on-Don. That has director Edward Zapasjni of the Moscow state circus announced.
“He was in Rostov on tour. I have been in contact with his producer and said that all possible assistance will provide for a grand farewell in our circus like to take care of,” says Zapasjni.
Popov was on July 31, 1930 born in Viroebovo, just outside Moscow, as the son of a clockmaker. In 1949 he received the diploma of the Russian circus school in Moscow, and he began at the state circus. Six years later, he was the first clown from the Soviet Union that occurred in the western world.
Standing ovation
The French journalist, Jacqueline Cartier gave him the nickname Sunshine Clown. In 1969 he was honoured with the title Volksartiest of the Soviet Union. He got in the whole world praise. As he was in 2006, guest of honour at the international circus festival in Monte Carlo, where he was a long standing ovation was given.
Popov was except clown also mime, tightrope walker and a juggler. He performed in the Russian comic tradition Ivanushka, where the stupid clown still slim appears to be.
Oscar
As an actor played Popov in 1979, the role of the Zachar in the movie Anon. In 1982, he won The ” Golden Clown of Monte Carlo, the Oscar for the clown.
Popov lived long in Germany, after, in 1991, he was married to a German. That marriage was in Breda, led by VVD-celebrity Ed Nijpels. Popov has over the years also commonly occurred in the Netherlands, among others, in Carré, and already had a lot of fans.
