Singer Eddy Wally deceased at the age of 83 – NU.nl

The artist, according to his manager to take his loved ones goodbye. Wally would shortly before his death have said that he was happy.

The singer had more health problems. He arrived in 2011 after a brain haemorrhage in hospital. Since then, he lived according to Belgian media in a nursing home in his hometown of Zelzate, near the border with the Netherlands.

Due to a problem with his feeding tube and an operation on his stomach Wally also spent the holidays of 2015 in the hospital . He was allowed to return home in late January. The singer eventually died Saturday night at 23:00.



Chérie

Wally, who was born Eduard Van De Walle was in his own country best known for hits such as Chérie and I jump from a vliegmachien . He was discovered the Dutch producer Johnny Hoes and was known for his remarkable statements and extravagant clothing.

Wally was particularly popular in his own country, but he also tried to break through internationally. He’d compared with his idol Frank Sinatra and performed, among others in Las Vegas. He also sang in the 70s in several European countries and even in Russia and China. The song Chérie was even translated into Chinese.

The singer called himself like The Voice of Europe and had in his own words a large fan base. But some critics left out are mocking him. As pranksters to his home in Erteveld had placed a large nameplate, so fans could easily find him for an autograph or a picture.



Cancer

Self Wally had wanted to go on for years. “I stop work when I’m dead. I can not disappoint my fans?” Said the singer in 2002, his 70th birthday. But soon after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. In 2011 he became after a stroke partially paralyzed and he ended up in a wheelchair. That did not stop him in December 2012 to climb the podium at Night schlagers in Kortrijk.
