Assassin’s Creed: game to film, which remains difficult – RTL News

Movie of the Week: Assassin’s Creed
Director: Justin Kurzel
With: Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons
Rating: 3 stars

A good movie based on a popular gamereeks is not so simple. Hollywood is trying it for years, but always with mixed results. Think of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat and Prince of Persia. Mixed reactions everywhere. The same fate is now undergoing Assassin’s Creed; not bad attempt, but history is there with this action movie well it’s not written.

the cast is not, because with Michael Fassbender in the lead role and a number of very impressive names in the supporting roles if director Justin Kurzel in his hands rubbing it. Fassbender plays the death row Callum Lynch, who by a mysterious organization kidnapped and then are required to work at an experiment in which he the memories of one of his distant ancestors will go to relive it.

Callum is a creepy device is connected and goes back to the 15th century Spain, where his ancestor Aguilar is part of a secret society that a particular object out of the hands of the Templars to keep. The apple of Eden contains the code to the free will of man, which is something the Templars like from want. It is a lot easier to have the power in your hands to keep as your subjects are not all tricky own willetjes.

A pinch of humor to the whole thing light-hearted to do no harm have been done, because all that quasifilosofische posturing about who apple is eventually a bit boring. That is definitely due to the characters no depth. What shreds of background information about Callum are not enough to take us with him to show compassion each time when he returned on that Animus up being hoisted.

Major misstep is that the story is too complex, at times even astounding, is. Especially for those who are not versed in the world of the Assassin’s Creed games. But fortunately there is still the action. A spectacular pursuit and powerful fight scenes give the film still shine. Such as when Aguilar about Andalusian rooftops rent and during his flight the one Tempelier after the other for his ass kicking. The gameverfilming is still curse, but there is hope.
