Actors Mark Centuries and Dave Mantel go the title roles in the musical The Bodyguard. That makes producer Albert Verlinde of Stage Entertainment announced. The two actors share the role.
The show, with music of singer Whitney Houston, is seen in the 2015-2016 season at the Beatrix Theater in Utrecht. The main female roles are played by Romy Monteiro and Carolina Dijkhuizen. The bodyguard incidentally does not sing in the show.
The musical is based on the hit 1992 film, about a singer and her relationship with the bodyguard she gets after she received threats. “It’s basically a cross between a musical and a concert. The romantic story is interspersed with huge concert acts reminiscent of the shows Madonna and Beyoncé,” says Albert Verlinde. Hits like One Moment in Time, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and I Will Always Love you not be translated into the Dutch version.
Netherlands is the first country after Britain to see where the piece will be. “We deal with our own creative team create its own version,” Albert promises. The director is Carline Brouwer, who previously made include Sister Act. The show is from mid-September at the Beatrix Theater.
