Before the funeral, a memorial service was held at St Nicholas Church in Terhulpen. Broadcast VTM the ceremony, sent them out.
At the memorial service were among others Prime Minister Charles Michel, Prince Laurent present. Outside the church screens were placed to interested parties.

US President Barack Obama has the widow of Belgian jazz legend Toots Thielemans expressed his condolences. The funeral service for the harmonica virtuoso Saturday in Terhulpen was read a letter from Obama.
“Best Huguette, Toots music may guide you and offer comfort,” Obama wrote. “I’m sure they will do for each of us.” American jazz pianist Kenny Werner, a good friend of Toots, the letter read aloud
