Last autumn was announced that Alex Garland, writer and director of the recently released Ex Machina has signed for the film adaptation of the gothic horror story Annihilation , based on the first part of Jeff Vander Meers Southern Reach trilogy. Variety now able to report that Natalie Portman is likely to play the leading role in the film
The book, published in 2014, is described as follows:.
A team of four people (a biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist and researcher) venture a trip to Area X. This area is completely abandoned and demarcated from the rest of the civilized world. This is the 12th expedition to Area X. Earlier expeditions were plagued by disappearances, suicides, illnesses and traumas, so much good not promised the new expedition.
Paramount and producer Scott Rudin (also a producer Ex Machina) bought the rights of Annihilation in 2014.
