The Women of Algiers painting by Pablo Picasso is Monday at an auction in New York for converted 160.7 million sold. Never before has so much counted down for a work by the Spanish painter.
The painting by Picasso was not the only work of art that went under the hammer. A sculpture by Alberto Giacometti was also filed an unparalleled amount: 126.6 million euros. Jussi Pylkkänen, director of Christie’s auction house, called both exceptional pieces of art work. “I’ve never been able to work with two such beautiful objects,” said Pylkkänen.
A total of 35 artworks auctioned Monday, 34 were actually sold for a total of 632 million euros.
