Profile: Albert West kept Cha-La-La almost 50 years full – NU.nl

The singer, born on September 2, 1949 when Albert Westelaken, began his career in 1964 at the age of fourteen at the Brabant band The Shuffles.

Westelaken was the frontman of the rock band, which especially hit Cha-La-La, I Need You national recognition got. The song spent several weeks in the Top 40 and stayed the rest of his life attached to him

Solo

In 1973, the singer decided to go solo under the stage name Albert West. He immediately scored a hit with Ginny Come Lately , a cover of the American singer Brian Hyland.

In Austria, the number was three months at No. 1. Other well-known songs from Albert West of that time were Do not Say You Leave This Summer and Hot Havana Nights . As a producer he had a success with Pacific Willie BB Band.



Hammond

singer-songwriter Albert Hammond he scored hit in 1986 Give A Little Love . Then it took years before the singer musically again meezat. He had to rely mainly on commercials. In 1993 he had a hit with Mockin ‘Bird Hill , which he sang for a commercial for an insurance company. He presented television programs on new RPM.

The new musical success came only in 2005. For a brand of beer he sang Is This The Way To Amarillo. Dutch troops in Afghanistan made the number of its own video for the home front. Then West acted as one of the first Dutch artists a week for the stationed there soldiers.



Spinal Cord Infarction

At the end of 2012 West suffered a spinal cord infarction, a disease that only a few times per year occur in the Netherlands. He partially paralyzed and had ever since been engaged to recover. He said ” one chunk fighting spirit ” and wanted to make a comeback.

After a bicycle accident with his tricycle last week he ended up in intensive care in hospital. He died Thursday in the presence of his family
