Frenchman Patrick Modiano wins Nobel Prize for Literature – Het Nieuwsblad

The French writer Patrick Modiano has won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2014. This has the Nobel Peace Prize in the Swedish capital Stockholm just announced.

The French author, known for his work on youth and identity in Paris signed by World War Two, was born on July 30, 1945 in the French capital. He was the child of a Jewish-Italian father and a Belgian mother who met in Paris during the occupation. Although he has never experienced war weldegelijk this is a thread running through his work.

In his first novel, “La place de l’Etoile,” he looks at anti-Semitism through a satirical lens. In subsequent work, “La ronde de nuit” from 1969 and “Les Boulevards de ceinture ’1972 war plays an essential role. With this latest novel Modiano won prizes. He won the illustrious Grand Prix du Roman of the Académie française it. Later came the Prix Goncourt for his work ‘Rue des boutiques obscures.

According to the Nobel Modiano may today the Nobel Prize for this ranking on account of ‘the art of memory which he can bring the most elusive adventures to life and the environment of the occupation can paint. ”

The Nobel prize has a value of around 900,000 euros.
