Not everyone is happy with Kanye West will headline the British music festival Glastonbury. More than 85,000 people signed a petition against his coming.
The Briton Neil Lonsdale put the petition online on Monday, shortly after it was announced that West is given a place at the festival. Along with Foo Fighters and Lionel Richie he’s headliner at the weekend.
Lonsdale writes: “Kanye West is an insult to music lovers around the world. We pay hundreds of pounds to be able to Glastonbury and thus we expect a certain level. Kanye has been very clear about his views on music. He should listen to his own advice and headliner-place must pass it to someone who deserves it. Let’s try to avoid this musical injustice. “
Anouk and Doe Maar
Traditionally, all Glastonbury tickets in a few hours after the start of the pre-sale over the counter without that something is known about the program. The 135,000 tickets for the upcoming edition were sold out in 25 minutes. The call Lonsdale has struck a chord: the description that West is a pretentious artist, belongs to the more friendly responses under conscious petition. West, who is usually not shy to a sharp statement, has not responded yet.
It is not the first time that the arrival of an artist at a festival causes a stir. In 2008 Glastonbury visitors were already dissatisfied with the advent of hip-hop star Jay-Z, while Dutch artists as Doe Maar and Anouk in the past pelted with apples and tomatoes during their shows at Pinkpop.
