The American soul singer Percy Slegde is deceased at the age of 73 .

Percy Sledge has died at his home in the city of Baton Rouge (Louisiana). That the singer’s management has confirmed to Sky News .
The American scored a hit in 1966 with the song When a Man Loves a Woman. Percy Sledge was with that single 11 weeks in the Dutch Top 40. The soul singer is also known for his songs Love me tender , Take Time to Know her and My Special Prayer .
Percy worked as a nurse in a hospital, when he was in the early sixties was acting as a member of the soul group Esquires Combo . When a Man Loves a Woman (1966), his first single as a solo singer, was written by himself. He regularly performed in the Netherlands
