The Revenant is based on the book The Revenant: a Novel of Revenge Michael Punke from 2003, about the hard life of an American trapper in 1823. The trapper Hugh Glass is severely mauled by a grizzly bear.
His two hired bodyguards to rob him and leave him for dead. When he comes, he decides to take revenge. Severely wounded, he struggles in his quest by hundreds of miles of desolate landscape

The Big Short , Bridge of Spies , Brooklyn , Mad Max: Fury Road , The Martian , The Revenant , Spotlight and Room be eligible for an Oscar for Best Picture
Bryan Cranston ( Trumbo ), Matt Damon ( The Martian ), Leonardo DiCaprio ( The Revenant ), Michael Fassbender ( Steve Jobs ) and Eddie Redmayne ( The Danish Girl ) can win an Oscar for Best Actor.
Cate Blanchett ( Carol ), Brie Larson ( Room ), Jennifer Lawrence ( Joy ), Charlotte Rampling ( 45 Years ) and Saoirse Ronan ( Brooklyn ) are nominated in the section Best Actress.

Supporting Role
Christian Bale, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Sylvester Stallone have been nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
In the section take Best Supporting Actress Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Alicia Vikander and Kate Winslet against each other.
In the Best Documentary section are the productions Amy , Cartel Country , The Look of Silence , What Happened Miss Simone? and Winter on Fire nominated.

Inside Out , Boy and the World , Anomalisa, Shaun the Sheep Movie and When Marnie Was There a chance to win the award for Best Animated Film.
The battle for the Oscar for Best Soundtrack will be between Brigde of Spies , Carol , The Hateful Eight , Sicario and Star Wars VII to go.
The nominations were announced by John Krasinski, Academy boss Cheryl Boone Isaacs and filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee. The Oscars will be presented on February 28
