The number of anti-Semitic incidents last year rose by 71 percent from the year before. The severity of the incidents is also increasing
This is evident from the monitor anti-Semitic incidents of the Center for Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI).
Yarmulke is target
Last year, 171 anti-Semitic incidents registered compared with 100 in the previous year. According to the CIDI also increases the severity of the incidents increased. Especially recognizable Jews who went with a yarmulke on the street, were targets of direct confrontations. Jews were harassed or abused. Last year, six Jews were attacked physically. In 2013 there were three.
The Gaza war last summer has had a direct impact on the increase in the number of anti-Semitic incidents. About half of all utterances were recorded during the bombing of Hamas and the Israeli army. According to the CIDI is a known phenomenon that anti-Semitic behaviors increase with major military actions of Israel.
Unsafe
The aggressive behavior on the streets ensures that more Jews feel insecure in the Netherlands. This feeling was reinforced by the CIDI according to the attack on the Jewish Historical Museum in Brussels last May. Also, there is fear in the Jewish community for returning jihadists. The fact that in The Hague nothing was done by the authorities when “Death to the Jews” was called, helps according to the CIDI not with the disappearance of that fear.
What does help is the visible monitoring Jewish institutions. Even the words of Prime Minister Mark Rutte (VVD) and Lodewijk Asscher (PvdA) that anti-Semitism and racism condemn consistently give the Jewish community support.
Reporting
CIDI calls it worrisome that agents sometimes looking away in anti-Semitic incidents. Doing declaration is sometimes discouraged.
That image seems to be confirmed by a report from the Public Prosecutor (OM) on discrimination rates. Of the 3,600 reported cases of discrimination were taken only 83 by the Prosecution in treatment in 2013.
Muslim
The unwillingness to take discrimination cases to police restricted not only to the Jews. Other faith groups and ethnic minorities complain about this. Discriminatiezaken in police unpopular because often there is little evidence, and so by default is a low resolution rate.
In the Netherlands, not only to Jews with negative behavior. There are also accounts of negative and aggressive actions against Muslims. These actions seem to have a direct link with the emergence of the terrorist Islamic State. To bring actions against Muslims in image, was created on Facebook a Hotline Islamophobia. Exact figures of anti-Muslim incidents in the Netherlands are not yet
.
