Sabine Kroese (Thekla Reuten) is just beyond a depression, when she is confronted with a traumatic event from her high school. The invitation for a reunion throws her back to the day her best friend Isabel disappeared.

That mystery was never solved. If then even that handsome boy of yesteryear pops up on her work, she decides to dig in her memory. Olaf (Daan Schuurmans) is a premier smug dick, but Sabine still falls for his charms. Or she tries to find out whether he has anything to do with the disappearance of Isabel?

Director Menno Meyjes already worked successfully together with Thekla Reuten and Daan Schuurmans for dinner. In The reunion is on both characters a screw loose: Sabine is an unreliable narrator, with holes in her memory and drunk Olaf sardonic touches and plays strange games

Meyjes keep the tension tight in this film. Simone van der Vlugt bestseller. The flashbacks to Sabine's childhood in a sunny and sultry Bloemendaal convincing, partly due to the strong play of the young actresses Marie-Mae Pillars and Daantje Idelenburg, who plays the handsome and manipulative Isabel.

How hard adolescents can be done, when Isabel shows one best friend, exchanges just for the other. Sabine is suddenly not popular, but teased. That draws her for the rest of her life. Nice matter, very well told and acted
