Concert Review: Gay Katy Perry pulls out all the stops in Ziggo Dome – NU.nl

It’s been four years since the last Katy Perry donned our country with a concert. At the time, she performed at the HMH with a very colorful and somewhat naughty show. A year later the Ziggo Dome opened its doors, where in the meantime acclaimed shows of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus were seen.

Now Katy Perry have been nothing more to prove, because its craftsmanship does not among the singers who preceded her in the Ziggo Dome. The expectations for the show of the American superstar are therefore high. British singer Charli XCX warms the room already with hits like I Love It and Boom Clap .

Especially for the part of the young audience the voltage to cut when the clock passes 21:00 and Katy Perry is still nowhere to be seen. Not much later emerges them on a large prism-shaped object on the stage, surrounded by fireworks and neon colors clad dancers, with the hit single Roar as festive opening track.

Warriors

Perry is enveloped in a luminous top and dress, with her black hair pulled back in a ponytail, which is adorned with luminous extentions. Rapidly Perry works by cheerful songs as Part Of Me , Wide Awake and This Moment go, while the dancers as savage warriors to her next run.

The bright colors and the acrobatics are pleasing to the eye, but Katy Perry goes one step further in the second block, she takes her fans to the time of the pharaohs. Seated on a kind of white ‘horse’, she rides her role as Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra on stage during Dark Horse

Mirage

Then she sings in her delightful faux-Egyptian robe numbers ET (with Kanye West on the screen as mirage) and Legendary Lovers , with one of the dancers dressed as something that should suggest a Roman emperor. We can guess who that refers song title.

At the end of the Egyptian bloc played Katy Perry her big breakthrough hit I Kissed A Girl , but now as an 80s hair metal song including howling guitars. Everything is a big wink, so a brief pause movie with partying cats on the music of Gin & amp; Juice Snoop (Doggy) Dogg.

disco ball

Her love for cats (she calls her fans affectionately ‘kitty kats’) will be continued in the next block, literally is a tribute to the musical Cats . All dancers are enveloped in that typical cat suits that we can from the musical and Perry himself looks like the bastard child of The Pink Panther and a disco ball.

The show is now halfway when it’s time for the acoustic part of the evening. This piece, however, is unnecessarily long stretched by conversations with the audience (they get including a sixteen year old girl on stage for a selfie) and its efforts to learn some Dutch words (“They’re just American words, pronounced weird.”)

Kernel

The acoustic versions have little value, the ballad By The Grace Of God notwithstanding. So lacks the campfire version of The One That Got Away that little kernel that makes it so irresistible on plate. The party is further put with a medley and uptempo house number Walking On Air.

For the big finale is still changed once outfit and get the spectators almost overdosed on neon colors look at the songs Teenage Dream and California Gurls . Birthdays are celebrated in the encore with a huge cake, summarizing the concert of Katy Perry succinctly: grand, fur and a bit error
