The American coming-of-age epic Boyhood has been named by the Dutch film press as the best feature film of 2014. The tragicomedy Aanmodderfakker was voted best Dutch title of the year. That made the Circle of Dutch Film Journalists (KNF) announced today.

Boyhood by director Richard Linklater shows the growth of the young Mason (Ellar Coltrane) of his sixth to his eighteenth birthday. Linklater and his cast came over a period of twelve years each summer for a few weeks together to turn new scenes, so that Mason and his parents (Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette) in the film are actually older.

Kanshebber Oscars
The epic was previously by critics in America named best film of the year and is considered major contender at the Oscars, the end of February will be awarded .
In second place was the acclaimed Polish drama Ida, a nun who is looking for a concealed secret from her family’s past. The latest title in the top three is heartbreaking historical epic 12 Years a Slave by director Steve McQueen, who earlier this year won the Oscar for best film.

Golden Calves
The best Dutch cinema, tragicomedy Aanmodderfakker director Michiel ten Horn, talks about a thirty (played by Gijs Naber) but that no could bid farewell to his student life. The movie was in October also the big winner at the ceremony of the Golden Calves.
Second place in the Dutch annual list of the critics was the poignant coming of age drama Boys, about two teenagers (Gijs Blom and Ko Zandvliet) who fall in love. Boys also previously won the KNF Award at the Dutch Film Festival.

The top 3 is closed by Lucia de B, a thriller about the Hague nurse (Ariane Schluter) who was wrongly convicted for the murder of countless patients.

It is the twelfth time the Dutch film press selects the best movie of the year. In recent years dragged La Grande Bellezza (2013), Amour (2012), Drive (2011) and Toy Story 3 (2010) the title on hold.
