LOS ANGELES – Lucia de B, the Dutch entry for the Oscars, has been shortlisted for the nominations. The Academy, which hands out the most important film awards in the world, has announced Friday the nine titles that have a chance after the preselection on a nomination for best foreign film of the year.
Lucia de B director Paula van der Oest tells about one of the biggest judicial errors in Dutch history. The Hague nurse Lucia de Berk (played by Ariane Schluter) sat for years incarceration on suspicion of murdering countless patients. If the movie is nominated, it would be the 2nd time that Van der Oest this honor bestowed. Previously, she was nominated for the tragicomedy Sister and all.
Other contenders
Other major contenders by his to the next round, the Polish Ida (pops a young nun in her family’s past), the Swedish Turist (about a family that ends after an avalanche in a relationship crisis) and the Argentine Wild Tales, a mosaic movie about revenge.
The nominations will be announced January 15. The Oscars itself is late February.
