Honorary Doctorate in Antwerp artist Marlene Dumas – Parool.nl

The artist Marlene Dumas allowed himself an honorary doctorate from 1 April next year at the University call Antwerp. She is distinguished for its penetrating work and her heartfelt emotions, says Alain Verschuren rector of the university. “She chooses the meaning of art, and not for perfection. That adorns her and her work, “said Verschuren.

Dumas was born in 1953 in South Africa and has lived and worked since 1976 in the Netherlands. She is best known for her paintings which she often responds to current events.

Last month, the Amsterdam-based painter still appointed by the Foundation for Art Week ‘Artist of the Year 2015′. “We can not go to Marlene Dumas, with her phenomenal exhibition at the Stedelijk,” the jury commented ushered then.

This exhibition is on show until Sunday at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Partly because of the great interest that the museum exhibition is heading off on an attendance of 800,000. That’s the highest since the opening of the museum in 1895.
