MIAMI (Reuters) – At an art fair in the US city of Miami is a silver plate by Pablo Picasso (1981-1973) stolen. It involves working Face with Hands in 1956, which is worth about 70,000 euros. It is owned by David Smith, a gallery owner in Amsterdam, US media reported.
The theft was committed on the night of Thursday to Friday during Art Basel, a major contemporary art fair. Thursday night the sign was still hanging on the wall, but Smith came Friday morning on an empty container. ,, I do all my life participated in art shows, ” Smith said. ,, There is never stolen anything from me. “”
The owner of the Amsterdam Leslie Smith Gallery has reported and raised the matter with the organization. The empty container is now checked for fingerprints. There are no recordings of security cameras and no eyewitnesses to the incident.
The artwork is number sixteen in a twenty part series signs of the Spanish master.
