Attenborough was one of the greatest actors of Britain before he became director. He starred in include Jurassic Park and Brighton Rock . In the blockbuster movie Jurassic Park , he played John Hammond, the owner of the dinosaur park.

In the 60s he made his debut as a director. Late 70s made a film about the Battle of Arnhem, A Bridge Too Far . In 1982 he and his team won eight Oscars for the film Gandhi , including best director, best male lead and best film. The drama film based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.

Attenborough sat for a while in a nursing home with his wife. He had long been ill. Since 2008 he had heart problems. After he had fallen down the stairs he was in a wheelchair. Attenborough died Sunday around noon
